Top of the day at 178ppk to 44.6kg Texel crosses from Messrs GD Fuller & Son, of Chulmleigh, whose second slightly lighter pen followed closely at 175ppk. 4 pens at 176ppk; the first to 42.9kg Charollais crosses from Messrs GF & PJ Warne of Umberleigh; the second to 40kg Dorset crosses from Messrs KW & MEE Blackmore of Brayford; the third to 41.6kg Texel crosses from Mr RP Williams, of Winsford, and the fourth to 41.5kg Texel crosses from Messrs TJ & L Gould of West Anstey. 173ppk five times and all to smart shapely Texel crosses; the first to 44kg pen from Messrs AD & SM Bray of Knowstone; the second to 41.5kg pen from Messrs G Dart & Sons of Molland; the third to 43.3kg pen from Mr S Bale of Challacomb­e; the fourth to 44.4kg pen from Mrs CT Jones of South Molton and final pen at 45.6kg from Mr KW Baker of Poughill. A higher number of better quality sheep presented than previous few weeks saw a dearer trade especially for the medium and leaner type ewes. Top of the day at £87 for shapely run of Texels from Messrs G Dart & Sons of Molland whose second pen followed at £85. £86 to Charollais from Mr CF Rice, of Chulmleigh, and £84 to Texels from Mr NA Cooke of Torrington. £82 twice; the first to Charollais from Mrs M Tapp of South Molton and the second to Mr Rice’s second pen of Texels. £81 to Suffolks from Mr G Palfrey & Son of Stoodleigh and £80 to other Suffolks from Mr G Webster of Chittleham­pton. £79 to Mules from Messrs PA & MEM Chudley of Romansleig­h with £76.50 to Suffolks from Mr ME Snell & Son of Knowstone. Best rams today from Mrs CA Smale of North Molton to £55 for a Texel. Fewer store lambs than previous fortnightl­y sale met another steady trade. Top at £60 twice for Messrs PA & ME Chudley of Romansleig­h & Mr A Cundy of Calverleig­h. £59.50 followed closely for two pens from Mr JA Slee of Bideford. Overall average: £54.66.
