The pin-up ponies caught on calendar to celebrate legendary Exmoor breed
As talk of Christmas builds by the day, Exmoor pony enthusiasts have seized the opportunity to launch their unique gift idea – perfect for a horse-loving friend or family member.
Nick and Dawn Westcott, founders of the Exmoor Pony Project and Moorland Exmoor Pony Breeders Group (MEPBG), have joined forces with Exmoor wildlife photographers, Lisa and Jamie Waters, to produce the Exmoor Pony Project calendar for 2019.
It is illustrated with heartwarming images of Exmoor’s iconic free-living pony herds, from foals in the springtime to snowy winter scenes.
Dawn is also a best-selling author, and readers of her trilogy of books – Wild Pony Whispering, Wild Stallion Whispering and Wild Herd Whispering – will recognise favourite characters such as Exmoor stallion Bear and Monsieur Chapeau.
Dawn said: “We’ve collaborated with brilliant wildlife photographers Jamie and Lisa Waters to create a wonderful visual story that runs through the months, featuring the beauty of Exmoor, the foals, the herds, adorable pony characters and the autumn gatherings.
“Stallion Bear just had to have the December slot to wish everyone Happy Christmas, and Monsieur Chapeau and Lady Luna also found their way in there.”
The calendar is a handy A4 size that opens up to A3 (portrait) when hung on the wall – providing a spacious page for each month, with plenty of room to write details of important events.
Costing £8.50 each, plus postage and packaging, all proceeds from the calendars purchased from the Exmoor Pony Project’s online shop will go towards funding the Exmoor Pony Project.
The Exmoor Pony Project includes working with Exmoor farmers, breeders, owners and enthusiasts to offer help and support in finding good opportunities for ponies – particularly foals coming off the moor each autumn; encourages compassionate handling of the ponies; campaigns for welfare improvements; and promotes the ancient Exmoor pony breed.
