Jack Leslie statue would be fitting

-

WHY honour black footballer Jack Leslie with a statue at Plymouth Argyle’s Home Park stadium?

The WMN reported the launch of a campaign to erect a statue of an Argyle footballer dropped by England when selectors found out he was black. Picked in 1925, Jack Leslie would have been the first black player to play for England, 53 years before Viv Anderson.

A statue and information plaque at Home Park would honour a great Argyle player. It would also testify to the depth of historical racial prejudice in this country and the progress we have made in the 50 years since Viv Anderson played for England.
