The BLM movement is a worthy cause

-

I READ with surprise Mike Jackman’s letter: ‘BLM are a radical political movement’.

The apparently ‘Neo-Marxist’ BLM website is American and defunding the police is aimed at an institutionally rascist US police system. The British force is run and organised differently and is far more accountable both locally and nationally.

“Riot is the voice of the unheard” is a quote from Martin Luther King.

The black community in the US has been trying to achieve equality and justice for decades with little success. Black people in the US die at the hands of their police force on a regular basis for nothing or minor misdemeanours! It is no wonder that after yet another death, violence erupted.

In Britain, black people still encounter racism, despite better integration in the UK.

The #Blacklivesmatter movement, in this country, aims to raise awareness of continued discrimination and institutional racism. A worthy cause, I would argue.

The ‘Neo-Marxist’ moniker is just a jingoistic term applied by a certain element of the right wing whose sensibilities it offends because of social inclusivity, justice and equality.

I don’t think Sir Keir Starmer has to worry about showing support for equality and social justice.
