Major revamp for Hyundai i30
HYUNDAI is updating its i30 hatchback and estate car line up w i th some design changes inside and out and the introduction of a 1.5-litre mild hybrid engine which sees the entire range coming with electrified powertrains.
Prices now start from £20,695 – an increase of some £3,000 over the current non-electrified cars – and the i30 range now begins with an SE Connect 1.0 Petrol T-GDI manual model with a 48 volt mild hybrid set up that is being used on all versions.
The hatchback i30 line up now tops out at £26,695 for a 1.5-litre petrol automatic in sporty N-Line trim while the estate model is priced from £21,445 to £27,445.
The i30 Fastback is also getting updated and that is now priced from £25,445 to £26,645.
The new 1.5-litre engine – which is not being offered on estate variants – develops 159ps and comes with both manual and DCT automatic transmissions.
It is available only in N Line trim and is priced from £25,275 with the manual version capable of 0 to 60mph in 8.6 seconds with a top speed of 130mph.
Fuel economy is rated at 44.8mpg with emissions of 142g/ km for the manual with the auto coming in at 46.3 to the gallon with a CO2 figure of 138g/km.
The most fuel efficient engine in the range remains the 1.6 diesel which can average a claimed 61.4mpg with emissions of 121g/km. It is priced from £22,495.
All models have slimmer headlamps with optional multifaceted reflector MFR LED technology and new V-shaped signature LED daytime running lights at the front, whilst at the rear, the new i30 hatchback gets a new bumper design, which also improves aerodynamic performance and optional LED rear combination lamps which create a V-shape for a symmetrical effect between the front and the back.
Other changes include updated safety systems with emergency braking, lane keeping and tyre pressure monitoring as standard features while optional equipment sees the likes of lane following, rear collision warning and blind spot monitoring being available.
The range is being realigned to start with SE Connect grade followed by Premium and N Line specification.
The 10.25-inch touchscreen featured in Premium and N Line models features the latest version of Hyundai’s Bluelink telematics system and the new i30 is the first Hyundai model to introduce the upgraded system which comes with a new user interface which offers a choice between three colour schemes and an enhanced dark night mode.
It also displays a range of GPSbased information to aid drivers, including the current speed of the vehicle and information about traffic density.
Hyundai has also announced that a updated i10 N performance model will be available next year and will come with a wet-type eight-speed dual clutch transmission, which offers paddle shifters and enables three new N performance functions.
For the first time, the new i30 N comes with the option of N Light Seats, a set of lightweight, highperformance front seats which are 2.2kg lighter than the standard seats.
Manual gearboxes remain available on the i30 N which has a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine developing either 250ps or 280ps on models fitted with an optional performance pack.
Both cars have a maximum speed of 155mph and the new i30 N with the Performance Package has a 0-60 acceleration time of 5.9 seconds, an improvement of 0.2 seconds or three per cent as compared to the current model.
As with its predecessor, the new i30 N has a range of high-performance driving features including rev matching, launch control and a rear stiffness bar.
Prices for the new i30 N are still to be announced.
