Grant looks set to miss Lincoln trip

-

PLYMOUTH Argyle could be without midfielder Conor Grant for their League One trip to play Lincoln City at Sincil Bank on tomorrow night (7pm).

The 25-year-old was taken off at half-time of the 2-1 League One victory over Northampton Town at Home Park on Saturday because of a leg injury, with Ben Reeves his replacement.

Grant wanted to carry on playing in the second period but the decision was made for him because manager Ryan Lowe did not want to take any risks over worsening the problem.

Lowe said: “He was just feeling a bit of tightness, either in his thigh or his hamstring. One of them anyway.

“We have got players that can come on, and I would rather take someone off than risk him, and we did that.

“Conor wanted to continue but we felt it weren’t right and we took the decision out of his hands.

“We don’t want to lose him for longer than we need to. He may miss Tuesday (against Lincoln), we will see how he is.

“Dave (Galley, Argyle’s head physio) will have a look at him. Hopefully it was a precaution more than anything.”

Grant has had an excellent start to the 2020/21 season for Argyle, being an ever present for them in League One. He has scored two goals and also has a club-best four assists, including the pinpoint cross for Frank Nouble’s 41st minute opening goal against Northampton.

Lincoln are third in League One, two points better off than sixth-placed Argyle, after a 0-0 draw at Fleetwood Town on Saturday.

Their goalkeeper is Alex Palmer, who had a highly successful loan spell at Argyle in League Two last season.

Palmer is now on loan to Lincoln from West Bromwich Albion for 2020/21 and has started each of their six games so far.

Lincoln’s only league defeat came in their last outing at Sincil Bank when they were beaten 2-1 by Bristol Rovers.
