A SEVERE weather warning for rain across parts of Devon and Cornwall has been extended by a further 24 hours.

The yellow warning was issued on Tuesday by the Exeter-based Met Office and was originally put in place from 9am tomorrow to midday on Saturday.

However, the alert was yesterday updated and extended by 24 hours to finish at midday on Sunday.

An area stretching from Exeter in the east, up to Crediton, Hatherleigh, Tavistock and Ivybridge in Devon along with Launceston in Cornwall are all covered.

The Met Office says that rain is set to be heavy and “persistent”, which could result in “flooding and disruption to transport and utilities”.

A spokesman for the Met Office said the band of rain is expected to become slow moving over Wales and western England on Friday with high ground particularly affected.
