Wotton commits his future to Truro

TRURO City boss Paul Wotton said it was a ‘no-brainer’ to sign a new long-term deal to stay at the club and try and complete the ‘unfinished business’ of getting the team promoted to National League South.

The former Plymouth Argyle player has been in charge of the Southern League Premier Division side since taking over in July 2019. But because of the Covid-19 pandemic neither of the two seasons have been finished.

Wotton’s first campaign as manager ended in April 2020 when the season was null and voided with City top of the table.

City had only played eight matches this season and were fourth in the table when fixtures were suspended in October.

However, Wotton is determined to finish the job with the team, who will be playing their home games at Plymouth Parkway when football does resume, with Treyew Road being developed as a supermarket and work on their proposed Stadium for Cornwall home yet to begin.

Wotton said: “I’m excited. It shows the club’s intent and how forward thinking they are. I’ve committed to them and they’ve committed to me. It’s all good.

“I’ve been here for two seasons now, which have been really frustrating seasons, and hopefully we’ll never see ones like it again – but I feel like there is some unfinished business.

“We want to achieve stuff as a football club. The club’s in a great place now with the owners and the new stadium being built. It’s my job to try and get a decent team on the pitch. Once I knew the direction the club was going on and off the pitch and knew I had the continued support, it was a no-brainer for me.

“The possibilities for Truro City are endless. There are good people at the club and the new ground being built is crazy exciting, and it is happening.

“We’ve got aspirations. I know where I want to be with the club.”
