Tiverton on the lookout for Fletcher replacement

-

TIVERTON Town will need to find a striker to replace Alex Fletcher but joint manager Martyn Rogers is confident that most of the squad from the cancelled season will stick with the club for a renewed promotion push, writes Richard Hiughes.

Fletcher, 22, signed for Tiverton after he was released by Plymouth Argyle in the summer. of 2019 having made 25 appearances for the Pilgrims, scoring three goals.

He played in all seven of Tiverton’s Southern League Premier Division South games before the season was suspended – at which point he moved to National League South side Bath City for an undisclosed fee.

Replacing Fletcher is the management team of Martyn Rogers and Scott Rogers’ major concern over the summer with the pair hoping everyone else will stay on.

Martyn Rogers said: “Alex was our top goalscorer so we need another player for sure. I think all the rest of the lads will stay.

“Scott and myself have spoken about it and we will be sitting down and having conversations with all the players regarding next year when we can.

“But the start that we had was terrific so we don’t envisage any people leaving and we would like to think we can keep the lads that we had because they can do it again.”

Indeed, Tiverton were second in the table when it ground to a halt, having won six of their seven games. They were one point behind unbeaten leaders Poole Town.

The season was still at its very early stages but it was a good start and confidence was high at Ladysmead that the team could carry that form forward and win promotion.

Rogers said: “Possibly, with one or two additions, we can liven up the squad, but there is no reason to change too much.”
