AN elderly woman has died in hospital following a serious crash in Devon last weekend.

At around 12.47pm last Saturday, Devon and Cornwall Police were called to the scene of a crash involving a car and a pedestrian on Dawlish Street in Teignmouth.

An 82-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Dawlish Street remained closed while police examined the scene.

Police have now announced that the woman has sadly died. A spokesman for the force said: “Sadly, the 82-year-old pedestrian died at hospital on Monday, April 5.

“Police enquiries are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the collision. Witnesses, or anyone with dashcam footage from the time and area, are asked to call 101, or email 101@dc.police.uk, quoting the log number 448 of April 3, 2021.”

In a separate incident, a man has been arrested following a car crash in Devon which left a female pedestrian injured.

Devon and Cornwall Police were called out to the A361 High Street in Ilfracombe on Wednesday afternoon, after receiving reports of the incident.

Police confirmed that a man was arrested after the crash, although they were initially unable to say what the motorist was detained for. However, the Force Incident Manager (FIM) for Devon and Cornwall Police has explained the arrest was due to the “nature of the driving”.

He said: “We received reports of an accident where a female pedestrian had been hit. A man has been arrested because of the nature of the driving involved. The woman sustained injuries which are not thought to be serious or life-threatening.”
