Readers are thanked for appeal cash
TWO community foundations covering Devon and Cornwall have praised the public for their generosity after receiving more than £5,000 in donations.
Over the last eight weeks, the Western Morning News along with sister Reach plc publications and websites in the Westcountry has teamed up with both Devon and Cornwall Community Foundations to launch a Lockdown SOS Appeal in order to raise the vital funds needed to support these organisations.
Since the outbreak of Covid-19 many have found themselves forced to seek out help and some have turned to these community organisations for help.
Throughout the course of the last two months websites DevonLive, CornwallLive and PlymouthLive have spoken to organisations, individuals and families all of whom have been impacted and needed to use services such as foodbanks, homeless shelters and domestic abuse refuges, many of which receive grants from Devon and Cornwall Community Foundations.
Thanks to the generosity of our readers, we have managed to raise more than £5,000 for these organisations so they can continue their important work.
Scott Walker, philanthropy director for Devon Community Foundation, said: “Devon Community Foundation would like to extend a huge thanks to everyone who has donated to the #LockdownSOS Appeal for their wonderful generosity to this campaign.
“We have been thrilled to receive donations from £5 to £500, and read the great stories produced thanks to the time and efforts donated by Reach plc. We celebrate any opportunity to fanfare the amazing work that is done by the often small and voluntary-run organisations all across Devon to support our communities – which, of course, has been especially hard recently.
“We are delighted that the funds raised will support more incredible community action and look after those left most vulnerable in the wake of the pandemic.”
