Easing the transition to electric car ownership

ANEW Plymouth business which specialises in charging equipment for electric cars has sparked into life by signing up with more than 50 dealerships.

Car Charge Go is an online retail supplier, specialising in home-charging equipment and accessories for all electric or hybrid motors. The company was set up to provide a guide for people buying electric and hybrid cars from purchase to installation and how to maximise the return on their investment through Government-sanctioned grants, which can be for up to £350 but are subject to eligibility.

The Government has made its ambitions for the future of electrical motoring clear. By 2030, the production of fuel-powered vehicles is to cease, and by 2035 only zero-emission cars will be available for sale. However, for many electric car owners, the industry is still seen as somewhat niche, which results in a limited aftersales care package provided by many dealers.

Car Charge Go said it is determined to change this, ensuring anybody considering the transition to electric driving can confidently do so. The company’s operations director is Kate Searl, and she says the firm understands the complexities of electric vehicle ownership and maintenance, and aims to remove all headaches and uncertainty from the investment process.

With multiple charger manufacturers to choose from, Car Charge Go aims to help motorists find the right one for their vehicle. Typically, they are small and compact and can be mounted on the wall of a house, and charge a vehicle, off-peak, overnight in up to about four hours.

The cost of an entry-point charger starts at about £500. An electrician needs to install the charger, and Car Charge Go can help with this.

Just one electric car on the roads saves an average of 1.5 million grams of CO2 over a year and, on a cost per mile basis, fuelling a fully electric car costs up to a quarter or less than traditional petrol or diesel.

Car Charge Go has already paired up with more than 50 significant dealerships across the UK, with more in the pipeline. BMW Ocean Plymouth is the latest major dealership to join the Car Charge Go family.

BMW has committed to a substantial electric vehicle strategy, so Car Charge Go chose the launch of the new, fully electric, £60,000, BMW iX3 – which ranges up to 285 miles between charges thanks to a rear-mounted electric motor which is linked to the car’s batteries – to reveal how the two businesses will work in partnership.

Mrs Searl said: “We are thrilled to officially launch Car Charge Go, especially alongside such a reputable dealership as BMW Ocean Plymouth. Garry Parker, the head of Ocean BMW, shares our vision for a brighter, more environmentally conscientious future on Britain’s roads.

“Working alongside BMW Ocean to provide a complete aftercare service, we are confident that Car Charge Go can help more and more motorists make a smooth transition into electric or hybrid vehicle ownership. We look forward to spearheading this initiative to protect the planet for future generations without sacrificing the necessity of car ownership.”
