Lowe: Argyle just didn’t have that final edge

RYAN Lowe admitted that Plymouth Argyle ‘just didn’t have that final edge’ as they came up short against Crewe Alexandra in their attempts to secure a second successive come-from-behind win at Home Park.

After beating Doncaster Rovers 2-1 on Saturday, the Pilgrims had to be content with a 1-1 draw against 23rdplaced Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday.

Crewe took the lead in only the third minute when a cross-shot from Scott Kashket deceived Argyle goalkeeper Mike Cooper.

The visitors had good chance to have extended their lead, while Argyle went close to equalising on a number of occasions in a highly entertaining, open game.

The Pilgrims did draw level with a ninth goal of the season from top scorer Ryan Hardie in the 72nd minute.

That set up a late push from Argyle to try and secure maximum points, just as they had done against Doncaster, but they could not find the finishing touch this time.

Even so, Lowe was still satisfied with what he had seen from his side as they extended their unbeaten run in League One to nine games.

He said: “I just don’t like getting beat, so if we had lost I wouldn’t have been in the right frame of mind, I would have been not happy.

“But when you see the team playing the way we are playing, and the amount of chances we are creating, it’s only a matter of time before it goes in.

“And when you look at the 19 points we have got from 10 games that’s a pleasing start for us, and I think everyone else is pleased with it.

“Yeah, we would have liked 21, or 24, but we are where we are. We are what we are. I see the positives and why I’m happy is because of what the lads are giving us.

“They are giving it 100 per cent every game. It’s not always going to be nice and pretty, but on Saturday they were resilient and the character came through.

“We were resilient tonight and the character was shown, we just didn’t have that final edge.”

Substitute Kieran Agard had a stoppage time chance to win it for Argyle but shot straight at Crewe ‘keeper Will Jaaskelainen and that followed a good opportunity for midfielder Ryan Broom.

The ball was headed out after a cross from Panutche Camara but dropped to Broom and he tried to place his shot into the top corner of the net but got too much height on it.

Lowe said: “Broomy had a great chance towards the end I see why he has gone high because they had been putting blocks on the line in the first half.

“He has tried to lift it and go in the top corner. They are the small margins, but 19 points out of 10 games I’m pleased with.”

Crewe arrived at Home Park with only one win from their previous nine league games but had something to hold onto after Kashket fired them ahead.

Cooper was rooted to the spot, in the centre of his goal, as the ball flew past him from a very narrow angle.

Lowe said: “Their goal was a bit of a bizarre one. I don’t think they realised it went in until the kid ran off celebrating. I don’t know whether it was a cross or a shot.

“It has just caught us a little bit cold. We were set for the cross to
