On-song Pilgrims singing in the rain

RYAN Lowe demanded a fast start from Plymouth Argyle, and he got it, as they ran out 3-0 winners against Bolton Wanderers at Home Park on Tuesday night.

The Pilgrims’ boss was well aware that Bolton were coming off a 4-0 home defeat by local rivals Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

That, coupled with a long midweek trip to Plymouth, meant that Lowe was eager for his high-onconfiden­ce players to impose themselves on the visitors from the kick-off.

He got what he wanted as defender Brendan Galloway opened the scoring in only the sixth minute, getting the decisive touch from close range after a corner from Conor Grant was headed down by Dan Scarr.

Then, in the 15th minute, a short corner move involving Jordan Houghton and Ryan Broom led to left wing-back Conor Grant making it 2-0 with a low raking drive from 25 yards.

Lowe said: “We knew Wigan scored four against them the other day and it wasn’t quite right from them.

“Bolton are a fantastic team, they are playing good football and they have got some good players, which we know.

“But they were coming all the way onto our turf at Plymouth Argyle and we wanted to get at them early doors.

“We asked for a fast start, I didn’t expect two goals in the first 15 minutes but they gave us it and we could have had more.

“That’s not being disrespect­ful, but we could of. I thought if we had been a little bit more ruthless in the final third we could have got that.

“So that was the game plan, to get at them early doors because they have had a long trip down and they are off the back of a 4-0 defeat.”
