Too cold to spend the whole night outside? Told you so!

WHILE this particular ‘told you so’ moment will be totally lost on its receivers, the smug sense of satisfaction when proven right is still there for me.

Back in April I wrote how our two kittens, having recovered from being neutered and the embarrassment of having to wear tight-fitting medical suits, were rebelling against their spell behind firmly closed doors by spending every waking moment - day and night - outside, just because they could. And much to my discontent, I must add.

I know it sounds crazy, but as darkness fell I couldn’t help but worry about where they were or what they were getting up to. Compared to other moggies in the neighbourhood they are very much lacking in size - even we affectionately refer to them as the ‘scraps’ - so that only added to my fussing. But they are cats, at the end of the day, and much tougher than they look, always appearing in the morning - if only to eat and disappear again!

But fast forwarding to today, the last week of October and with autumn well and truly here, the previously invincible kitties are succumbing to the elements, just as I knew they would and in true ‘told you so’ fashion.

Almost every evening the door through to the front room, where puppy and humans can be found in front of the fire, will gently creak open, seemingly of its own accord. Listen closely, however, and the pattering of tiny paws is often followed by a welcoming eek, shortly after which your lap acts as a landing pad for a cat, ready to snuggle down for the night after a busy day. A night out in the countryside, with no streetlights to break up the pitch black darkness, suddenly doesn’t seem so appealing.

I can sleep easy knowing they are in safe for the night - when I’m not having my toes nibbled or face prodded at 5am that is!
