Holloway to be the expert on Pilgrims

-

Holloway will be part of the ITV team for their live coverage of Plymouth Argyle’s FA Cup first round clash away to Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.

The former Pilgrims’ boss will be one of the pundits on the broadcast, which starts at 11.30am ahead of the 12.15pm kick-off at Hillsborough.

Analysis will also come from Chris Waddle, the ex-England international who played for Sheffield Wednesday during his successful career.

Mark Pougatch will host the show while match commentary will come from Sam Matterface and former England and Arsenal defender Lee Dixon.

Argyle and Sheffield Wednesday will both receive £50,000 live broadcast fees, with the winner of the tie also collecting £22,629 in prize money.

ITV’s programme details ahead of the tie against Hillsborough read as follows:

“Sheffield Wednesday entertain League One rivals Plymouth Argyle in the first round of the FA Cup at Hillsborough. Wednesday have won the cup three times but the last of those was in 1935.

“In more recent times a run to the final in 1993 is fondly remembered for a 2-1 semi-final win at Wembley over local rivals Sheffield United.

“After making an impressive start to the league campaign, Ryan Lowe will be hoping his Plymouth side can keep up the momentum against a team they beat 3-0 at Home Park back in September.”

The travelling Green Army will be seated in the upper tier of the West Stand at Hillsborough. Tickets are priced at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.

Holloway, who regularly appears as a pundit on the ‘EFL on Quest’ highlights show on Saturday nights led Argyle to the FA Cup quarter-finals in the 2006/07 season.

The Pilgrims were then a Championship club so entered the competition in the third round, before losing 1-0 to visiting Premier League club Watford in the quarter-finals.

Live coverage of the FA Cup is now being shared by ITV and the BBC as part of a new four-year contract.

ITV will screen four of the 40 first round ties, with Sheffield Wednesday against Argyle on the main channel while their other three games will be on ITV4.

They will be Banbury United vs Barrow (Saturday 5.15pm kickoff ), Stratford Town vs Shrewsbury Town (Sunday, 3pm) and Dagenham and Redbridge vs Salford City (Monday, 7.45pm).

Following the last of those games, Seema Jaswal will present coverage of the second round draw from Wembley Stadium.
