The day Cornish beach turned white with snow
ASTRIKING photograph of an unusually frozen Cornish beach has been chosen to feature in a new book on weather.
The photograph of Hayle beach in the snow is part of the Royal Meteorological Society’s new Weather: A Force of Nature book.
Every year the Royal Meteorological Society hand-picks a selection of photographs from its acclaimed annual Weather Photographer of the Year competition. Ranging from sandstorms in Arizona and Iran, to the snow-capped mountains of the Andes, these stunning images depict the most thrilling and extreme weather events from around the world, and show the very best in dramatic landscape photography.
Among these breathtaking scenes is a photograph of Hayle beach, taken by local photographer Kieran Brimson.
The photo, titled The Frozen Beach, was taken during the infamous Beast from the East weather front in 2018, and shows a rare scene of floating balls of ice in the shallow water of a rising tide.
Kieran said: “I was so excited about the snowfall.
I hadn’t seen anything like it since I was a child, so I was very eager to get out and explore the town, and see how magical it looked. When I got to the water’s edge and saw the contrast of the snow melting back into the sea over Hayle’s
golden sands, I knew I’d captured something special.
“To see it now, printed alongside such incredible photographs from around the world, is so rewarding and I’m extremely proud,” Kieran added.
Kieran began his photography career in 2011 with ‘The Day That...’, a unique company whose team have captured every dawn in West Cornwall since 2005. Through this work, Kieran reached an impressive milestone of 1,000 photographed sunrises in 2017, all the while exploring the Cornish coastline and gaining a wealth of experience.
