and details will be announced in the very near future.

Cornishman Ben Barker has been tipped for a return with Phillips telling the WMN recently that it depended on his average for 2022, but he was hopeful of being able to add him to his roster.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Danish World Cup star Hans Andersen would be joining Michael Palm Toft and Edward Kennett as new signings at the Coliseum. Henry Atkins and Alfie Bowtell have been retained from the side that rode in 2021.

Atkins, meanwhile, is now a club asset following a formal transfer from his former club, Somerset Rebels.

Twenty-year old Atkins has already agreed to ride for the Gladiators in 2022 and is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in the sport having won a string of British grasstrack and youth titles as well as being only one of a handful of young riders invited to be part of the Great Britain set up.

Cruelly, his 2021 season was curtailed almost before it began with the recurrence of a serious shoulder injury in his first meeting of the year requiring an operation which saw him miss the remainder of the 2021 season.

Atkins is now back to full fitness and is raring to make up for lost time. On signing his new deal, he paid tribute to his former club, Somerset, and particularly the owners, Debbie, Bill and Frances

Hancock for their part in allowing the deal to proceed.

Atkins received tremendous support from the Rebels supporters, having began there as the club mascot and progressed to a place in their 2019 Championship team before injury again struck.

“Somerset will always have a special place in my heart,” said Atkins. “I would like to thank everyone involved at the club for their help and support over the years.

“I am delighted to again be part of the Plymouth set-up and can’t wait for the 2022 season to begin.”
