Robinson left angry as Argyle celebrate

-

OXFORD United boss Karl Robinson was distinctly unimpressed by the extent of the full-time celebrations after Plymouth Argyle beat his side 1-0.

As is always the case after games at the Theatre of Greens, Steven Schumacher and his Argyle players walked around the pitch after the final whistle to applaud the Green Army.

And as has become traditional after a home win for the Pilgrims, Neil Diamond’s ‘Sweet Caroline’ blared out over the PA system.

Robinson, who was also angered that Oxford were not awarded a penalty in the first half when the game was still goal-less, made his feelings clear after the match.

He suggested Oxford would use the full-time scenes as extra motivation should they meet Argyle in the play-offs next month.

Robinson said: “We just had the dressing room door open to listen to their celebrations. We’ll be seeing these again, it’s no problem with me.

“We turn the music off when we’re up against teams that we’re playing against because you don’t want to rile people. This might be a Wembley (play-off) game.”

He added: “It’s about my players, I only care about my club. Sometimes you need to respect other teams a little bit more because we’re a good team, with generally good morals.

“It’s in the filing cabinet this, and I’m sure it’ll be coming out sooner rather than later.”

The penalty controversy came in the 34th minute when Billy Bodin played Gavin Whyte through into the Argyle box and he was bundled over by Ryan Law.

Referee Ollie Yates immediately blew his whistle and pointed to the spot, only to then see that an offside flag had been raised.

Robinson thought that not only should Oxford have been given the penalty but Law should have been red-carded as well.

He said: “The penalty is onside by so much, the lad’s nowhere near and he’s smashed him. It’s a sending off and a penalty.”
