-

Redruth 59-5 Rochford 100

REDRUTH turned on the style to run in no fewer than nine tries as they put a game Rochford 100 side to the sword, writes Alan Nettle.

Redruth had near total dominance in the first 40, although a miss functioning line-out restricted the Reds to just a single try in the first quarter. But four tries in 14 minutes secured the bonus point and despite their opponents playing effective Barbarian-style rugby in the 2nd half the Reds were able to secure their biggest win of the season.

Redruth were led out by Connor Gilbert, playing his 100th game for the first XV and earning the coveted

Red Blazer.

Before kick-off, a hushed crowd played tribute to Reds stalwart Raymond Peters who sadly passed away recently.

Redruth kicked off playing towards Hellfire Corner in front of a bumper crowd and Rochford immediately knocked on and Redruth set up camp in the visitors 22.

A succession of penalties were kicked to the corner but on three occasions the line-outs were lost and chances went begging.

On seven minutes Rochford went own to 14 and five minutes later the Reds made the extra man count as they drove over from a line-out in Piggy Lane corner for an unconverted try.

The Reds remained on top and following a second yellow card for the visitors Todd Prisk crashed over for a converted try. In a blink of an eye the Reds added another, Jack Simmons making a searing break before slipping the ball to Will Trewin who sprinted to the line.

From the kick-off Redruth won the ball and Jack Oulton put a 50-22 kick into Hellfire Corner. A front of the line-out move worked to perfection and Kyle Bradley was over to the delight of the Hellfire faithful.

A thumping tackle in midfield led to a line out in Piggy Lane corner where this time a back of the lineout peel move worked well and Todd

Prisk finished off the half with a converted try to take the score to 31-0 at tghe interval.

Rochford came out for the second half determined to make their mark and they did when they scored their first and only try on 42 minutes.

On 47 minutes Conor Gilbert cut through the 100 defence and finish off his break for a converted try. before another Reds try was ruled out bfor a forward pass.

Two penalties took Redruth into the scoreboard corner where Shaun Buzza got in on the act with a try following a line-out maul.

Tries for Trewin and Simmons, both converted by Fraser Honey, put the icing on a very nice cake.
