Camara injury is a concern to Argyle

STEVEN Schumacher has revealed Plymouth Argyle midfielder Panutche Camara had to be taken off during the second half of the 0-0 draw with Sunderland at Home Park due to a hamstring issue.

The Pilgrims’ boss is hoping it is not too serious and will not prevent Camara from playing in the penultimate match of the regular season away to table-topping Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

The Guinea-Bissau international had been having an outstanding game for Argyle against Sunderland until he felt a hamstring tighten as he was fouled by Jay Matete.

Camara was distraught and looked close to tears as he slowly walked off the pitch with physio Nick Fulton and then made his way to the Pilgrims’ dressing room.

Schumacher said: “Hopefully he will be okay. He has just felt a little bit of a hamstring issue. We will get him assessed (today), scanned if we can, and see how he goes for the weekend.”

The Argyle manager had wanted a reaction from his players after their 2-0 defeat away to Wycombe Wanderers on Good Friday and he got it against Sunderland, with Camara leading the way with his all-action display. Schumacher said: “He was brilliant.

“I think he has felt his hamstring as he has been fouled. Fingers crossed it’s not too serious.”

Meanwhile, Argyle skipper Joe Edwards looks likely to miss the match at Wigan because of the sprained ankle which has ruled him out of the last two games.

Schumacher said: “He wasn’t close at all to playing (against Sunderland). We knew he wouldn’t be available for this one from his scan results.

“We will see how he is for Wigan on Saturday but if he’s not 100 per cent I won’t risk him. If you have an ankle sprain and you can’t kick the ball properly then he won’t be able to play.”
