Argyle’s big game will be live on Sky

-

PLYMOUTH Argyle are holding onto the last of the four League One play-off positions, and by the tightest of margins, going into the final round of matches on Saturday lunchtime - and the huge clash with MK Dons has been selected for live broadcast by Sky Sports.

The Pilgrims dropped from fifth to sixth place in the table after Sheffield Wednesday rallied from a 2-1 half-time deficit to win 3-2 away to Fleetwood Town on Tuesday night.

Striker Lee Gregory completed a hat-trick for Darren Moore’s Owls, who also went above Sunderland as they moved up to fourth.

Wednesday are two points clear of Argyle with an identical goal difference but they have scored six more goals than them, which could be important come the weekend.

Sunderland drew 1-1 at home to Rotherham United at the Stadium of Light in midweek action as they dropped to fifth.

The Black Cats needed an 88th minute own goal from Rotherham defender Michael Ihiekwe to avoid defeat and put them one point above Argyle, again with an identical goal difference but 10 more goals scored.

With Rotherham drawing and leaders Wigan Athletic losing 3-2 at Portsmouth in their penultimate match, third-placed MK Dons could still be automatically promoted, and even win the league title.

The Dons, who are a point behind Rotherham but with a worse goal difference of six, will therefore have a lot to play for when they take on Steven Schumacher’s Argyle in front of the television cameras at Home Park on Saturday.

MK are three points adrift of table-topping Wigan, again with an inferior goal difference of six, with the Latics away to Shrewsbury Town at the weekend.

Wycombe Wanderers are now seventh in the table after the midweek results, level on points with the Pilgrims and with an inferior goal difference of two.
