Organisers of stag party leave revellers with £3,500 hangover

-

THE organisers of a stag party in Newquay have been left £3,486 out of pocket – after falling victim to a collapsed events company.

Groom-to-be Simon Jones and 13 of his mates had paid out £169 each for accommodation and drinks, after booking a package with Stoke-based Stag and Hen City for a stag do in Cornwall on June 3.

The 39-year-old – who is getting married in July – was told by the company last month that the booking had been cancelled. Two days later, the company ceased trading – and the stag party’s money has still not been repaid.

Now the group have rebooked their accommodation – and had to shell out an extra £80 each on top of the cost of their original booking.

Simon, from south Wales, said: “I came across Stag and Hen City in 2019. They seemed to have good reviews at the time and I thought it would be a good idea to book a package; it seemed like a good price. We were due to go on the stag party in 2020 before I was getting married, but obviously it had to be postponed.

“We were going to Newquay on June 3 this year. On April 25, I had an email from Stag and Hen City to say the booking had been cancelled. Two days later, I had a message telling us that due to Covid-19 they were seeking solvency advice and no one should go on their party bookings.”

Stag and Hen City has confirmed that the company had ceased trading and would ‘work with its insurers’ to see if any of its customers’ cash could be recovered.

A company spokesman said: “It is with deep regret that we have to accept that Stag and Hen City Ltd is to be placed into insolvency and ceased trading.”
