ATOP slimmer from Cornwall has been chosen to feature on the cover of a national magazine after losing seven stone and nine pounds.

Leanne Hemming, from Canonstown, Hayle, slimmed from 18st 2lbs to 10st 7lbs since joining her local Slimming World group at the end of August 2021.

For her impressive weight loss, Leanne, 40, has now been chosen to feature on the cover of the UK’s topselling slimming magazine as an inspiration to others. Leanne said her life has been transformed in the last two and a half years when her weight made her unhappy and ‘feeling like the odd one out’. Now Leanne is hoping to inspire others to achieve their own personal weight-loss goals with her story.

Leanne, who was this year named Slimming World’s Miss Slinky 2024, said: “I’d battled with my weight for 15 years. Being overweight had an impact on so many aspects of my life – I felt embarrassed about how I looked and I had pain in my knees and lower back and knew I needed to do something about my weight as it was really affecting my confidence and self-esteem.”

On August 31, 2021, Leanne decided to make a change by joining her local Slimming World group at Leedstown Village Hall in Cornwall, which is run by Susie Tait. That was the start of the transformation, which saw her invited to star on the front cover of Slimming World Magazine.

She said that although she was nervous about joining her local Slimming World group at first, she said it turned out to be the best decision she had ever made. Leanne added: “Everyone was so friendly – especially my consultant, Susie. The group is so supportive and always there to pick you up and remind you how far you’ve come when you’ve had a tough week – it’s like I’ve got my own bunch of cheerleaders, who all understand what it’s like to lose weight.”

The mum-of-two, who has gone from a dress size 22 to a size 8, added: “I used to dread going shopping for clothes as I’d struggle to find clothes that fit me and would only wear dark and baggy clothes. Now I love going shopping and I’ve even treated myself to a whole new – more colourful – wardrobe.

“I had so much fun trying on different outfits like gorgeous trouser suits and long evening dresses, that I wouldn’t have dared to try on before, for the photoshoot too. I also used to hate having my photo taken before and would always hide away from the camera, but I felt so confident and proud of myself. I loved every moment of it – I still can’t believe I’m on the front cover of Slimming World Magazine.”

Susie Tait, who runs the Leedstown Slimming World group, said: “The changes Leanne has made week after week has proven how making small and simple changes to your lifestyle can have a significant impact on your weight and health.”
