PROJECTORS ROUND-UP

Looking to go big with your home cinema set-up? You need one of these 4K projector beasts

-

It can be a real jungle out there in the home cinema market, especially if you don't know what it is you're looking for. Not only must you locate and capture a number of those most exotic of species – a class-leading product that won't devour the whole of your budget – but they all need to live together harmoniously when you get them home.

Luckily, we've witnessed something of a minor renaissance in home cinema products over the past year or so, with a growing number of sterling AV receivers and speaker packages hitting the market, and projector manufacturers have not missed out on the party either.

Here, we shine a light back at three shining lights we've tested over the past six months. Each of the projectors in this trio offers a superbly crisp 4K image to enjoy your favourite films in intimate detail, with 14 stars shared between them.

First up is Optoma's UHD40, winner of 2018's Award for best projector under £1500 as part of what became a clean sweep for the company in this category. Available for as little as £1199 at the time of print, it sets an incredibly high bar at an aggressive price that few have the acumen to challenge.

One manufacturer that evidently does, though, is Vivitek, new to our test rooms but leaving having made a very good first impression with its HK2288 4K HDR projector. And we round up our round-up with a traditional big hitter in Epson, with its EH-TW7400 sneaking in under the £2000 mark and offering a bit more for those with a bit more.
