Compromise is not only the key to any successful relationship, it’s also usually part and parcel of any big purchase too. Whether you’re buying a house, car or TV, you have to make sacrifices somewhere. But with Philips’ latest flagship TV, compromise is a thing of the past.

With a potent mix of stellar image quality, superior immersion and audiophile quality TV sound, the Philips 65OLED+935 is master of all it surveys. Let’s have a look at some of its talents.

AI smarts

Philips has been setting the standard for OLED picture quality for some time, and the OLED+935 moves the PQ game on another step.

Inside is a fourth-generation P5 processor with AI+ processing. This involves a new dedicated AI chip with the extra power to create a better balance between the five pillars of picture quality (source, colour, contrast, motion and sharpness). By analysing all elements of the content, frame by frame, it reproduces a much more realistic, natural image that feels more like real life than regular TV.

Add to this the superb contrast and deep, inky blacks possible only with OLED, and you have a feast for the eyeballs.

The 65OLED+935 also supports all formats of high dynamic range (HDR) – HDR10+, Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) and Dolby Vision. Regardless of where your HDR content comes from, you will be safe in the knowledge that the image is as lifelike as can be.

And if you’re not watching HDR content, Philips’ Perfect Natural Reality technology will convert SDR content into an Hdr-like picture with 30 per cent more natural sharpness than the previous version. This is especially noticeable with natural reflections within the on-screen content, where the picture truly comes to life.

Plus there are new modes for movie lovers: Pure Cinema Mode and a new version of Movie mode, which includes Film Maker Mode. With this in your lounge, who needs the cinema?

Ambilight to the power of 4

Philips’ Ambilight technology takes immersion to another level. Intelligent LEDS on the rear of the set of the set cast on-screen colours onto the walls to precisely match the on-screen image in real time, creating the effect that the on-screen action is extending into your living room.

The result is a far more immersive cinematic viewing experience.

The 65OLED+935 features Ambilight on all four sides, creating even deeper immersion, while also making it appear as if the TV is floating above its stand. It has to be seen to be believed.

Sound by Bowers & Wilkins

Even with premium TVS, the audio side is often left as an afterthought. But not here. This set is part of Philips’ OLED+ range, which means it has a speaker enclosure by

legendary British hi-fi firm Bowers & Wilkins. And it’s been redesigned for even better audio performance.

Building on the success of Philips’ existing OLED range – the recipient of no fewer than 80 best TV reviews and awards across Europe in 2019 – the 65OLED+935 is the first Philips TV with Sound by Bowers & Wilkins to feature both Dolby Atmos Elevation drive units and a central Tweeteron-top assembly. The central tweeter is part of a dedicated centre-channel in the set and because it is decoupled from the main speaker body, and housed in its own metal enclosure, the Tweeter-on-top eliminates interference from other parts of the speaker system. The result? Better audio resolution and clarity from all kinds of content, be it TV shows, sport, movies, games, or – of course – music.

Tweeter on Top was pioneered by Bowers & Wilkins in 1977, and has been a key feature on all of the company’s most iconic premium loudspeakers in the 40+ years since. The results speak for themselves.

But it’s not the only weapon in this TV’S audio arsenal. Its further two tweeters are joined by four 50mm midrange drive units: two mounted centrally and two at each end of the speaker enclosure. Bass comes courtesy of a single racetrack-style subwoofer unit, ported to the rear of the speaker enclosure. And there are twin upward-firing Dolby Atmos ‘Elevation’ units mounted on the top of the enclosure. These offer outstanding scale and immersion. You don’t have to do anything to unleash the power of Dolby Atmos – the TV does it all for you. It automatically recognises and decodes Atmos-encoded content to deliver the best results. Engage the Movie or Game mode and the OLED+ 935 will up-mix non-atmos multichannel content too, giving three-dimensional immersion from its Elevation drive units even with older types of content.

The speaker enclosure itself takes design cues from Bowers & Wilkin’s critically acclaimed speaker range. The tweeter grilles follow the acoustically open design first developed by Bowers & Wilkins for its 800 Series Diamond range, for example. And the bass enclosure is ported to the rear and uses Flowport technology, as developed by Bowers & Wilkins for its core loudspeakers.

That means audiophile-quality sound, whatever you’re watching.

But even when it’s switched off, this TV is a design statement. Its effortlessly minimalist aesthetic, ultra-slim chassis, edgeless bezels and high-quality metal finish are supported by specially selected, acoustically transparent Kvadrat cloth, a new metal micromesh fascia on the upper surface of the enclosure and a new, premium remote control with its sides and rear wrapped in responsibly sourced leather from Scottish specialists Muirhead.

All combine to enrich any surroundings into which it is placed.

Beautiful to watch, listen to and experience, the Philips 65OLED+935 is designed without compromise. When buying a new TV, don’t settle for less.
