Citroën Relay redesigned
Alongside news of the new Fiat Ducato comes the announcement of a new van range from sister Stellantis brand, Citroën, with customer deliveries commencing this spring.
The new range comes on the back of an extremely successful 2023 for the brand in the UK, with Citroën UK placing second only to France in volume of light commercial vehicle sales for the brand.
The Berlingo Van, Dispatch and Relay will be the first models to display the brand’s new identity and logo. Featuring a new front grille and dashboard, the vans have retained all of their original qualities, but they also claim a host of enhancements for everyday use in terms of comfort, connectivity, driving aids and powertrains.
It’s the Relay (also known as the Jumper on the Continent) that will be of most interest to the leisure market (although limited in number compared with Fiats, there are both motorhomes and campervans based on the Citroën) and this receives new diesel engines, available for the first time with an automatic gearbox.
The latest Relay will also be offered with a fully digital instrument cluster, an infotainment system accessed via an HD central touchscreen with connected navigation, and additional on-board safety systems and driving aids. The new van is said to take driving aids, connectivity and comfort to a new level with features that are unique in its segment.
The front end of the new Relay has a new look that improves its aerodynamics. The bumper, radiator grille (now the same colour as the bodywork) and mirrors have been redesigned with this in mind. The black lower section has been reinforced to further enhance the vehicle’s impact protection.
New LED headlamps are also 30% more efficient than their halogen predecessors, while rear lights have also been given a new design.
In the passenger compartment, the Relay’s dashboard has been redesigned to offer improved ergonomics and style, with a large central screen. The steering wheel, gearbox controls and door trim have also been upgraded.
The latest Relay will come with a new 2.2-litre diesel engine in two power outputs, 140hp and 180hp, combined with a new six-speed manual gearbox. And, as already mentioned, for the first time, an eight-speed automatic transmission will be available as an option with either engine.
We expect the Peugeot Boxer to receive a similar update to its Citroën Relay cousin.
