When musicians Jay McGuiness and Siva Kaneswaran agreed to go on the run for C4’s cat-and-mouse reality show Celebrity Hunted, fans of their band, The Wanted, helped them to avoid capture.

‘Our fans are the best,’ says Jay, the winner of Strictly Come Dancing in 2015. ‘They’re so much smarter than us. We made lots of mistakes while we were on the run and our fans certainly helped us out of a few pickles.’

Jay and Siva join five other celebrity ‘fugitives’ – Gogglebox’s Steph and Dom, Made in Chelsea stars Spencer Matthews and Jamie Laing, and TV presenter Anneka Rice – in the fourpart series, which is showing as part of C4’s Stand Up to Cancer strand.

The seven famous faces must remain at large for two weeks as a crack team of ‘hunters’, made up of former police officers, intelligence and army personnel, attempt to track them down.

In a bid to stay under the radar, Jay and Siva resorted to disguise. ‘I ended up wearing a grey beard, which started off pretty convincing but got steadily worse,’ says Jay.

‘It’s easier for me to go unnoticed as there are millions of average-looking white guys who look like me – whereas Siva looks like an Egyptian prince!’

While Jay says Strictly was ‘nerve-racking’, nothing could prepare him for Celebrity Hunted. ‘If both shows were the same length, Hunted would be more intense than Strictly,’ he insists.

‘I’d say 90 per cent of this show was pure enjoyment, while the other 10 per cent was sheer

terror!’
