Wannabe parents Toyah and Peter have huge news…
There’s cause to crack out the bubbly at The Rovers this week as Peter and Toyah learn their surrogate, Jackie, is pregnant!
It’s been a tough journey to get to this point as many fruitless rounds of IVF took their toll on Toyah and Peter.
But Toyah has never given up on her dream. She walked away from a former marriage because of it, and would probably have walked away from
Peter, too, if he hadn’t supported her every step of the way.
‘Having a baby has been Toyah’s driving force,’ says Georgia Taylor, who plays her, ‘and at times she’s been consumed by it.’ When Toyah learnt she was unlikely to be able to conceive through IVF, Izzy – who paid Tina McIntyre to carry her child – put her onto surrogacy.
Celebration
After being accepted by an agency, the couple were introduced to Jackie, who agreed to carry their baby for them. The surrogate was inseminated with their embryo – and so far so good!
‘They have a lot of love to offer a child,’ says Georgia. ‘Toyah has wanted this for so long and while Peter has his demons, if he can keep winning that fight I think he has a lot to give. When Peter is with Simon there are glimmers of the brilliant dad he can be and Toyah admires that.’
As the pair celebrates, however, bad news, which will test Peter’s parenting skills and delivers a blow to their celebrations, is lurking…
