Michelle Dockery is a far cry from Downton’s prim Lady Mary in her new role as a hardened widow in seven-part drama Godless, set during the frontier days of the Wild West.
She plays gun-toting outlaw Alice Fletcher, who takes in Roy (fomer Skins star Jack O’Connell), a man on the run from notorious criminal Frank Griffin (Jeff Daniels).
But when word reaches town that Griffin is heading their way, the women of La Belle must band together to defend themselves.
‘The first thing we did when we arrived was a cowboy camp,’ recalls Michelle, 35, of her role. ‘I remember when I fired a gun: the adrenaline was crazy!’
