Young Evie gets caught up in huge tensions...

Tragedy strikes in Howards End, when Ruth Wilcox (Julia Ormond) passes away. Her family is stunned to find a note saying she wanted to leave Howards End to kindly Margaret Schlegel (Hayley Atwell) – but they swiftly disregard Ruth’s wishes and destroy the letter.

Margaret is unaware of what has happened and although Ruth’s widower Henry (Matthew Macfadyen) grows closer to her, and his daughter Evie tries to be friendly, trouble is brewing…

‘Evie’s into things like exercise and cars so she can’t understand Margaret who is into books and poems,’ says Bessie Carter, who plays her. ‘Margaret isn’t immediately a threat to Evie, but she slowly creeps into her family and Evie feels pushed out.’
