Magda seemed nothing short of perfect when she turned up to work as Shelagh and Dr Turner’s new au pair. This week, however, it’s revealed Magda’s hiding a dark secret, one that has devastating consequences.
Far away from her native Hungary, Magda (Peaky Blinders’ Nina Yndis) is keen to make friends. So when Fred and Violet Buckle announce plans to hold the Miss Poplar 1963 Beauty Contest, Magda jumps at the chance to get involved.
‘Magda’s glamorous, and Shelagh’s a little worried that son Timothy’s head will be turned – but she’s lovely and is a great help,’ says Laura Main, who plays Shelagh.
Emergency
Before rehearsals begin for the contest, Magda goes for advice on contraception – only to learn she’s pregnant!
Not ready to become a mother, Madga requests a termination. But when she’s told she can’t have an abortion, she take matters into her own hands…
Stealing medication and using Shelagh’s nursing books for guidance, she tries to terminate the pregnancy herself.
But tragedy strikes when Magda collapses suddenly and is rushed to hospital. Will she survive?
‘Magda’s a dream and is wonderful with the children,’ says Laura. ‘Shelagh can’t do without her.’
