Look who’s back
Matilda’s claims push Rose to breaking point…
Friday, 9.00pm BBC1 Drama
Matilda Gray’s arrival in Penllynith has provoked upset in spooky thriller Requiem, particularly for Rose Morgan, the mother of Carys Howell, who disappeared from the Welsh town in 1994.
Rose is stunned by Matilda’s theory that she is Carys, and this week, desperate to be believed, Matilda (Lydia Wilson) has another emotional meeting with Rose and insists that she is her child, but the tortured mother begs Matilda to leave her alone.
Shattered
‘Rose’s world is turned upside down when Matilda claims to be Carys.
She can’t dare to believe that this is the girl she loved so much,’ says Claire Rushbrook, who plays Rose. ‘Her story is painful because she has been defined by the catastrophe of her little daughter being taken.’
As Matilda continues to investigate, Rose’s behaviour becomes increasingly erratic and the cracks in her relationship with her husband Aron (Richard Harrington) grow wider, leading him to take action for the sake of their son, Davey (Brochan Evans), who’s suffering from nightmares. But how will Rose react?
‘Rose has seemed to be happily married and has been presenting herself as doing well, considering the awful things that have happened, but she’s churned up inside,’ says
Claire. ‘Now she feels trapped and is pushed to the limit…’
