Outlaw King

Can a group of ordinary people pull off a robbery?

-

Years of planning and an extensive knowledge of the criminal underworld are required to pull off a heist. Or are they?

In this new six-part series, 10 ordinary, law-abiding members of the public have been challenged to team up and steal £250,000 from a cash-in-transit van in Thirsk, North Yorkshire.

They then split the loot and, if they can evade capture for two weeks, they each get to keep their £25k.

Tough case

With a crack team of detectives on their tail, however, it’s not as easy as it sounds.

‘I’ve dealt with some evil types, but I found these people to be hard-nosed liars,’ says former Detective Chief Superintendent Sue Hill.

‘They’d look you in the eye and say, “I had nothing to do with it”.

‘Normally with criminals, you can find their Achilles heel, but these people, especially the ladies, were extraordinary. They were so clever.’

Determined

The wannabe criminal gang aiming for success comprises sisters Jessica and Laura, friends Ben and Georgia, couples Dianne and Ian and Jonny and Emma, and father and son Norman and Johnathan.

‘We were clueless as to who we were looking for,’ says Sue.

‘Our reputations were on the line. Similarly, I think this will put people off committing crime because the pressure the gang was under was immense. Even hardened criminals feel that pressure when they’re arrested.

‘Normally they squeak like little birds when they’re locked up, but these people really were something else!’
