Coronation Street: Weddings
Enjoy the best Weatherfifield weddings ever…
13 July, 8.30pm ITV Soap
Out of the 130 Corrie weddings in Weatherfield over the decades, some are truly shocking while others are heart-warming. This week’s look back at special Corrie moments celebrates the best. Steve Mcdonald has had a few brides over the years including Vicky, Karen (twice), Becky and Tracy (twice), and who can forget the big days for Raquel and Curly, Shelley and
Charlie, and Kirk and Beth?
What’s better than the drama of a soap wedding? Corrie has had a whopping 130 nuptials over the years and there’s a chance to relive some of the best ones this week.
Shelley and Charlie’s 2005 wedding day ended when Shelley ditched bad boy Charlie at the altar following years of his womanising, while Beth married her ‘Kirky’ in a 1980sthemed union in 2014.
And nobody can forget the moment Raquel and Curly said ‘I do’ in a register office tearjerker in 1995, made more emotional because of Raquel’s unrequited feelings for Des Barnes. ‘Soap weddings take a long time to film!’ laughs Simon Gregson, who plays
Steve Mcdonald. ‘You can end up being at a stately home every day for two weeks – and for some reason it is always freezing cold!’
And Simon certainly knows a thing or two about soap weddings. After all, Steve is Corrie’s most married character, having been hitched seven times to five different women.
First up he wed Vicky in 1995, then machinist Karen twice – initially for a bet in 2001 and again in 2004 when the nuptials were interrupted by Tracy, who announced they’d had a onenight stand – then Becky in 2009, Tracy in 2012, Michelle in 2015 and Tracy (again!) in 2018!
‘Steve’s the Henry VIII of soap!’ says Simon. ‘But as daft as he is, his heart’s in the right place. At the time, he thinks, “This is the best thing ever, let’s get married,” but it never works out for him. He’s a bit of an idiot, I know that much!’
