Best known for…

The flamboyant Cuban singer, born Margarita Figueroa, became well known in the 1990s when she was a regular fixture on broadcaster Clive James’ TV chat show. Clive discovered her on US cable TV in 1994 and hired her as his show’s resident ‘Latin American chanteuse’.

Other achievements…

Margarita toured regularly in the UK and Australia. Last year, she appeared in an episode of The Real Housewives of New York City, performing a cover of Money Can’t Buy You Class.

Family life…

Margarita, who was divorced, passed away on 23 June in New York, aged 89. She leaves behind a daughter.
