DEAR NHS SUPERSTARS Thursday, 9pm BBC1 Factual

The coronavirus pandemic has been a reminder of just how much the NHS does for us – and what a debt we owe to those staff who have gone above and beyond.

In this one-off special, celebrities including Sir Lenny Henry, Strictly’s Shirley Ballas and Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden share their stories of the times that the NHS has saved their lives.

‘You don’t realise how much people have put you back together,’ says former Strictly pro AJ Pritchard, who appears in the programme with his brother, Love Island star Curtis. ‘We’ve both broken our arms, Curt’s broken his leg and we’ve both had operations.

‘They have done so much to keep us going in our careers and to keep us fit and healthy. We forget we need to thank them.’

In the programme, AJ and Curtis open up about their experience in December 2018 when the two of them were attacked while on a night out, and Curtis was left needing treatment.

‘They looked after me, made me feel comfortable,’ explains Curtis. ‘I was in hospital straightaway. They sorted me out with MRI scans and they got me back into working condition. I can’t thank them enough.

‘They’re always doing stuff that no one sees. The staff need to be thanked and rewarded.’
