THE SECRETS SHE KEEPS Monday & Tuesday, 9pm BBC1 Drama
Following Agatha’s murder of her ex-hubby Nicky last week, things begin to unravel further for the troubled baby-snatcher when little ‘Rory’ becomes seriously ill with a fever and rash.
Knowing that a trip to the doctor will mean being exposed as Ben’s kidnapper, a desperate Agatha initially refuses to seek medical help, all while dealing with regular knocks on the door from increasingly suspicious cops.
Desperate
‘With Agatha there are points where you sympathise with her and you want her to be happy,’ says Downton Abbey’s Laura Carmichael, who plays her.
‘There are moments where it feels like it could all go her way and it leads you to will her to win. Her story is so sad that you understand her trauma and what’s led her to doing what she has.’
However, as Rory takes a turn for the worse, Agatha’s boyfriend, Hayden, is forced to step in and make an appointment with the GP, who diagnoses meningitis.
But when Agatha refuses to allow Rory to go to hospital for treatment, the doctor alerts the authorities, and Agatha flees the surgery and goes on the run.
Meanwhile, grieving mum Meghan’s world continues to fall apart when Jack’s affair with estate agent Rhea Bowden is exposed in the press.
But as the finale gears up to a dramatic showdown between
Meghan (Jessica De Gouw) and an increasingly unhinged Agatha, there are more twists and turns before a single gunshot rings out…
‘Agatha’s quite extreme. She can really change in an
instant and manipulate,’ says
Laura. ‘She was really fun to play, though. It was really liberating for me and such a world away from Downton!’
