dramas such as The Crown,
Gentleman Jack, The Victim and

BAFTA TV AWARDS
Friday, 7pm BBC1 Awards
Normally it’s the most lavish event in the British TV calendar, but this year’s BAFTAS will look very different!
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s ceremony was delayed from May and will now be a virtual one – first-time host Richard Ayoade will present from a closed studio, and the nominees will attend and accept awards via video calls.
Nonetheless, it’s still set to be an exciting night, with historical miniseries Chernobyl and royal drama The Crown nominated in multiple categories.
Here’s our look at the hot contenders…
DRAMA SERIES
Will it be third time lucky for The Crown (above)? The show has been nominated for Drama Series twice before, but has yet to win. BBC1’S Gentleman Jack, starring Suranne Jones, is its biggest competition.
LEADING ACTOR
Jared Harris is the favourite to win for his performance as investigator Valery Legasov in Chernobyl, but Stephen Graham’s critically acclaimed turn in C4’s The Virtues (above) is also a contender.
ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAMME
Strictly Come Dancing (above) and The Voice UK go head-to-head once again for this year’s award. But could BBC3 Online’s hit The Rap Game or BBC1’S The Greatest
Dancer cause an upset?
LEADING ACTRESS
Once they battled over a man in Doctor Foster – now they are rivals for a BAFTA! Jodie Comer (Killing Eve) hopes to win again, while Suranne Jones (Gentleman Jack, above) is also nominated.
SOAP & CONTINUING DRAMA
Casualty (left), Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Holby City battle it out for the big prize this year. Eastenders and Hollyoaks failed to make the shortlist this time around.
