McDonald & Dodds

When a hot-air balloon accident leaves one man dead, detectives Dodds and Mcdonald are on the caseé

-

When five friends go up in a hot-air balloon and only four come down alive, a murder investigation is launched in the return of ITV’S Mcdonald & Dodds.

Mick Elkins (Eastenders’ Martin Kemp), Barbara Graham (Holby City’s Patsy Kensit), Jackie Somner (Mona Lisa’s Cathy Tyson) and Gordon Elmwood (Sherlock’s Rupert Graves) are ‘movers and shakers’ from the 1980s who’ve all remained good friends and now live in the same apartment block in Bath.

As they arrive for a fun day out in a hot-air balloon, they’re surprised when their other housemate, Frankie, joins them. The group are high in the air when disaster strikes and the balloon loses control.

As the craft crash-lands, four have survived but there’s no sign of Frankie, whose body is later found in the woods. Did he jump or was he pushed? DCI

Mcdonald (Tala Gouveia) and DS Dodds (Jason Watkins) investigate…

‘Mcdonald and Dodds are so different, yet they have this great bond and affection for each other,’ says Jason. ‘They are both still in a learning process, but are going forward together.’

The duo are joined by airaccident investigator Roy Gilbert (Gavin & Stacey’s Rob Brydon), who examines the incident with as much precision as Dodds…

‘Dodds is the last one to realise the similarities between them when it’s glaringly obvious to everybody else,’ reveals Jason.

Secrets

As Mcdonald and Dodds look into what really happened in the sky, it’s clear our four high-profile suspects are hiding secrets from the 80s…

‘I’m quite forensic as an actor, so I’m working out the mystery like I would do as a detective,’ explains Jason. ‘I find that fascinating.’
