Although titled Officers’and Ratings’ service collection, they are actually a supplement to the service records held in ADM 196 for officers www.national( archives.gov.uk/records/ royal-naval-officers-servicerecords.htm) and ADM 139 and ADM 188 for ratings after 1853 ( nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/ royal-naval-seamen.htm). It is these series that should be consulted first, as not everyone who has a service record will be included in the ADM 29 series.
