I agree that online trees and some genealogy sites cannot be trusted. I have seen instances of a parent and child born the same year – or 100 or more years apart.

I have seen parents in the 14th century criss-crossing the Atlantic producing a child in England, then USA, then England again and back to the USA!

I’ve had one site suggest that London, England, could be in one of the States of America or Polynesia.

I’ve seen the merging of two or more households in a census and grandchild­ren transcribe­d as ‘son’ or ‘ daughter’.

I have also found that many of the data errors that I have reported over the past five years have not been corrected.

Check everything at least three times seems to be the motto. Philip B Oliver
