Nick Peers demonstrates how to use the Kindeo app to record memories

We often forget that our personal history is as important a part of our family tree as all the ancestors we’ve researched. Kindeo is a free tool that’s designed to remedy this oversight via a series of personal video clips that you can share with members of your family.

What sets Kindeo apart is how it leads you to recording interesting information about yourself. It provides a list of topics, from family and childhood to hobbies, skills and dreams. Each topic then reveals a series of related questions, such as what your favourite childhood memory is or whether you have any special possessions bequeathed to you from your parents or grandparents. Simply select a question and record a short video diary of you answering it.

You can then invite other family members to join you on Kindeo – they can view your videos through their web browser, then submit further questions of their own for you to answer.

Presently, you can only upload videos to Kindeo on the iPad, but support for other platforms – including computers and Android – is promised. If Kindeo sounds appealing, go to www.kindeo.com/noipad to register your interest and cast a vote for the device you’d like to use.
