The Friends of Perth and Kinross Archives have indexed many records collections, which have been presented in free-to-access databases. Among the collections are Perth burial records from 1794-1855, militia collections, Jacobite resources, and the Perthshire People and Kinross-shire Kin.

If your ancestors came from further along the River Tay, check out the Friends of Dundee City Archives platform. Church records, burial records, burgh registers, trade directories, school records, Poor Law registers and more have been transcribed and made freely available.

The website of the Friends of the Archives of Dumfries and Galloway has a range of record indexes from the burghs of Dumfries, Lockerbie, and Moffat which are free to search, as well as kirk session and presbytery records from Dumfries, shipping records and Dumfries poor board minutes.

The old Scotsfind.org website held many useful collections of transcribed records from Edinburgh, including lists of burgesses, apprentices, guildry records and more. The site ceased to work in 2010, but its collections have been preserved by the Internet Archive, with the site still accessible in a cached version at web.archive.org/web/20070127015608/http://scotsfind.org.
GLASGOW theglasgowstory.com
The Glasgow Story is a labour of love for the former second city of the Empire, with a range of images and anecdotes about those who lived in the city. Of especial interest for family historians are free copies of the valuation roll from 1913-1914, and accompanying ward maps.

The Ayrshire Roots site is a somewhat old and unwieldy platform, but contains many useful databases and records – including indexes to Poor Law records, church records transcriptions, local newspapers, directory descriptions, pre-1841 census substitutes, and much more.
KIRKCUDBRIGHT old-kirkcudbright.net
Old Kirkcudbright provides “glimpses into an ancient burgh and parish”. The free databases on the site include old parish register deaths lists from 1826-53, stent rolls, landowners and valuation rolls, parochial board minutes, as well as extracts from several historic books describing the town.

The Inverness Emigrant Index 1828-1866 is freely available. It features emigrants who travelled to New South Wales (Australia) and Moreton Bay ( Queensland) from Inverness, under the ‘assisted immigration’ scheme. The site lists only those who gave the Highland capital as their place of birth.
