Who Do You Think You Are?

WELCOME

- Sarah Williams, Editor sarah.williams@immediate.co.uk

F or me this is a bit of a sad ‘welcome’ because I am also saying ‘goodbye’ to Who Do You Think You Are? LIVE (p10). Ten years is a long time and I remember going to the first event when this magazine was just a twinkle in my eye! I will particularly miss meeting readers. I know it won’t be the same, but we have set up a WDYTYA? Magazine Facebook Group where like-minded genealogists can share tips, exchange ideas or ask for advice (p50). It’s like a mini WDYTYA? LIVE – but without the travel. At the point of going to press we had over 370 members after only three days and already queries have been solved. Of course, a Facebook group could never replace our forum which has been fantastically active since it launched in 2007, but it’s a different way of connecting with the genealogy community.

Luckily, however, the TV series and the magazine continue to thrive. We were delighted to see the show receive a welldeserved BAFTA recently and we are approaching our tenth anniversary as the UK’s best-selling family history magazine.

As more records go online, we pride ourselves on showing you the best free resources (see our Scottish feature on p16) as well as giving you some of the context behind new records that are added to subscription site collections (for example our feature on police pension records on p63). We also love social history here. If I’m ever a few minutes late for work in future, I will just say I’m keeping Bristol time (see our feature on p66).
