Database of Norwich freemen records launched
Centuries of records of those awarded the freedom of the city of Norwich are now available to search in a free online database. The Freemen of Norwich have begun putting the Freemen Registers, which date back to 1317, online. The records currently released from 1714 to the present day, with nearly 20,000 entries, are now online. These will be followed by the medieval and early modern registers, and information on ‘citizens’ from the Enrolled Deeds from 1285. To view the database, go to nfro.norwichfreemen.org.uk.
