Who Do You Think You Are?

Transcription Tuesday is back!

TUESDAY 23 JANUARY 2018

-

Sign up for our second Transcription Tuesday event and give something back to family history

Last year, in January, hundreds of readers joined us for our first ever Transcription Tuesday. It was a great success with lots of positive feedback from everyone involved. This year we are hoping to inspire hundreds more of you to transcribe even more records than we did in 2017. So what is Transcription Tuesday? Well, for those of you who weren’t involved last year, it’s a day that we set aside to give something back to family history by transcribing digitised records online.

If you sign up to participate, you will get to see the original documents via your web browser and will be guided to transcribe the words that you see directly via the website. It’s a great way to improve your ability to decipher handwriting, and the work that you do will enable these documents to be searched and accessed by other family historians for generations to come. Sign up to one of our five chosen projects and join us on Tuesday 23 January 2018 as we transcribe throughout the day. Whether you’ve just got half an hour to spare in the evening or you dip in and out all day, we’re sure you’ll have fun.

Each member of the Who Do You Think You Are? Magazine editorial team has chosen a transcription project to support this year. Three of our projects reflect the current interest in First World War records as we continue to mark the centenary. Read the description of each project and decide which one you would like to support on the day. You can find out more about the projects and how to sign up for them from the Transcription Tuesday page on our website: who do you think you are magazine.com/transcriptiontuesday.

Tell us which project you will be supporting, so we can keep you informed about the day. If possible register with your project and have a test run before 23 January, because this will highlight any queries you might have. On the day itself, why not team up with others and make an event of it? We would love to see photos of you taking part, either on your own or in a team. So choose your project and sign up today!
