ACCESSING THE REGISTER

1939 Register, England and Wales

findmypast.co.uk Findmypast is the only place to access the England and Wales 1939 Register online. Some archives, including The National Archives at Kew, offer free access.

1939 Register, Northern Ireland

nidirect.gov.uk/forms/ proni- enquiry The 1939 Register for Northern Ireland has not been put online, but it is free to request an extract. However, you need to provide an address or at least a street or townland. Unless you are requesting details of someone who was born over 100 years ago, you will also need to provide proof of death.

1939 Register, Scotland bit.ly/ nrs-1939-request The 1939 Register for Scotland has not yet been put online. However, it is possible to request, by post, details of an individual for a fee of £15 plus postage. As with England and Wales, this excludes anyone who is or may be alive, so you may need to include a death certificat­e with your applicatio­n.
