Jesse Charles Jones, born Cardiff, 1887

bit.ly/2Bf3cC8 Jesse Charles Jones was born in Cardiff in 1887, the fourth child of Jesse Jones and Mary Ann Willis. He married my husband’s grandmother, Vera Phyllis Julian, on 26 December 1921 and had two children: Sydney Howard (1922) and Phyllis Violet (1926).

Jesse was a butcher, and the family story goes that he died suddenly while delivering meat to a customer in Rhoose on 13 May 1926.

An inquest was held the following day, but I have not been able to find a copy of the inquest decision, as the newspapers (Welsh) do not seem to be available beyond 1919.

Does anyone have access to any of the Cardiff/Rhoose papers for the above dates? Coddjan

Where was Archer Lodge in 1901 and 1911?

bit.ly/2EKXDuQ Archer Lodge was born in December 1890 in Highwood/Writtle, Essex, to parents Archer and Louisa.

He appears on the 1891 census as “Auther” and on later returns his father is listed as “Archibald”.

I can find no trace of Archer (junior) on the 1901 or 1911 census, even though the rest of his family appear to be living at the same address in both years.

In 1914 he married Ellen Sage in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, and in 1915 their son was born in Reigate, so he obviously moved around quite a bit.

By 1916, when he enlisted to serve in the First World War, he gave his place of residence as Chilton, Berkshire. He spent all his life working in the racing industry.

Can anyone have more luck than me in finding him in 1901 and 1911? phsvm

Royal York Rangers

bit.ly/2Bf3qJu My great great grandfather, Stephen Roberts, was enrolled into the Royal York Rangers (RYR) about 1809 and served in the West Indies.

He was demobbed in 1819 and became a Chelsea Pensioner, dying in 1840.

I have recently discovered that the RYR was a “naughty boy regiment” and would like to know why Stephen was enrolled.

Where can I find his service records, or records of the RYR? neergydna

Ann Symons – help

with research bit.ly/2BIbEe8 I am trying to find out some more information about my 4x great grandmother, named Ann Symons.

According to the 1851 census, Ann lived in Appledore, Devon, but was born in Somerset (Bristol).

She married John Cole and their daughter, Mary Ann Symons Cole, was born in Appledore in 1853.

I have no idea who Ann’s parents were or when she died – my research skills are failing me. Can anyone offer additional details? Urchin
