Watch out!

Between 1784 and 1793 a duty of 3d was imposed on the registration of every baptism, and many people simply avoided baptising their children and paying the fee. When the Stamp Act was withdrawn in 1766, many children were subsequently baptised together by their parents, in some cases years after they were born.
